What Can I Do To Help Hospice? One of the most important things that you can do for hospice is to share your experience with others. After providing services in the community since, 1994, people continue to have a misunderstanding of what hospice care is all about and hesitate to use hospice services. Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. could not exist without the support and good will of the community. Here are a few suggestions on how you can help Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. Thanks for asking!SHARE: The most positive way for others to hear about hospice is through you. Let your physician know how hospice has touched you, so they will know how hospice will benefit other patients. Talk about hospice care to your friends, neighbors, church groups, and employers. VOLUNTEER: Everyone has talents they can share. Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. needs your talents. Our volunteers performs a varied, valuable service for our patients and staff. View our current listing of volunteer opportunities. During the first year after the death of a loved one, healing and decisions are faced, for this reason, we recommend that families do not volunteer for hospice until after the first anniversary of their loved ones death. After the first year, we encourage you to consider our volunteer opportunities. INVITE: If you know of a civic organization, club or church group that would like to have a guest speaker, please call us with a contact name. We'll set up a speaker to attend the event. Opportunities are limited only by the imagination when it comes to helping Hospice serve those facing end-of-life in McDowell County. DONATE: We have compiled a.Wish List These are items items that otherwise our families would not be able to purchase. In a family devastated by a terminal illness, medical bills quickly accumulate and everyday items such as groceries, school items, winter coats, etc, tend to fall to the bottom of the list. Our list changes as the needs of our families change, so review it often to see if you can donate items. Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. serves the whole family, not just the patient. It is the family that is impacted by the terminal illness and struggles to maintain a sense of normalcy and routine. If you have an idea that is not listed, please call our office and talk with our Patient Care Coordinator Volunteer Coordinator or Office Manager. Contribute: financially through Donations, Memorial gifts, Wills and Planned Giving or giving via our Wish List. Part of our mission is to provide services to our patients and their families regardless of their ability to pay. Even though Medicare/Medicaid and most insurances pay for hospice services, Hospice of McDowell County, Inc., cherishes the donations and memorials from our friends in the community. This ensures that hospice services are available to everyone when needed. We are a non-profit organization and all gifts are tax-deductible. Please remember that all donations claimed for the current year, must be postmarked by December 31st. See statement below for further explanation. |

Hospice of McDowell County, Inc., relies on donations and memorials from our friends and the community. WE are a non-profit organization and all gifts are tax-deductible. Our mission is to provide services to our patients regardless of their ability to pay. Donations make it possible for us to extend a hand to everyone who comes to us for care. Friends and family may want to honor a loved one by making a memorial gift to Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. When arrangements are made with the funeral home and the newspaper, the most often used wording is "in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of McDowell County, Inc., 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC, 28752." We send a thank you letter to the donor and an acknowledgement letter to the primary caregiver. This informs the family that a gift was made in honor of their loved one. Sometimes families want memorial donation envelopes placed at the funeral home or want to give them to other friends and relatives. Arrangements can be made by calling our office or asking one of the hospice team members to have them delivered for you. In addition to a will, there are many other forms of planned giving, such as Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts and Pooled Income Funds. If you have specific questions about any of these, please contact your attorney or financial planner. |
