What are Your Options for Care Settings at the End-of-Life?

In 1936 only one third of Americans died in hospitals. Today the number of Americans who die in a hospital or other health care facility is 80%.

Depending on your care needs and your available support, you may choose where you wish to live as you approach end-of-life.

Options for care at the end-of-life may include:

  • care at home by family members, with additional support from extended family, friends and hired caregivers.
  • a nursing home
  • an assisted living facility
  • hospice care at home or in a nursing home
  • a hospice residence
  • care in a hospital

To discover what is available in your community, a county social worker, hospice social worker, county department on aging, or your physician can help you learn the services available in McDowell County.
