| What is the Hospice Concept? | ||||||||||
Hospice is a model for quality, compassionate care at
the end of life. Hospice care emphasizes pain and symptom management,
psychosocial and spiritual support. This care involves a team of professionals
and volunteers who address the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual
needs of the patient and family. Care is tailored to the needs and wishes
of the patients and their family.
The process of dying and facing death are not easy to deal with for the patient or the family. You or someone you love is facing an illness that cannot be cured. HOSPICE CARE IS HOPE, WHEN THE ILLNESS NO LONGER RESPONDS TO CURATIVE TREATMENT. Hospice care is palliative, meaning that emphasis is on symptom management for the patient and in their last days living fully and with dignity. Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. realizes that dying is a natural and personal event that effects everyone. We consider that hospice & palliative care must include the whole family - spouse, children, favorite aunts, uncles, cousins - the important people in the patient's life. Our care focuses on the whole person - emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of life for the individual. Care also includes the immediate family. The goal of hospice and palliative care for Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. is to enable the patient and family to have the best quality of life they can during this particular time of their lives. To achieve this, Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. strives to create a caring, trusting environment that promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual care for the patient and their loved ones, along with educational and bereavement support. For Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. we believe that Life Always Matters! |
