Bereavement Services
Bereavement services are an additional benefit provided for the family after the loss of a loved one. This services is free of charge and is individualized according to the needs of the survivors. Bereavement counselors provide families with support and ongoing education as the survivor approaches the different stages of grief. Family members receive monthly phone calls, newsletters and educational literature.

When we lose someone close in our lives, we naturally grieve. Grieving people respond in a variety of ways and have a variety of needs during this time of bereavement. It is our hope that through these supportive services, healing and growth may occur.

Trained volunteers are available to visit with families in the home for added support and reassurance through the first year following the loss of a loved one. These volunteers are optional and are available for those who elect this services.

Hospice offers an annual memorial service to honor those persons whom we have served during the past year. This is a special time for families to share memories and visit with staff members whom they have not seen for awhile. Families who would like to include photographs of their loved one in the memorial service program can do so by contacting the office (652-1318) for more details. Invitations will be mailed out in the fall of the year and we encourage anyone with a new address to let us know. Hope to see you there!

Support groups will be offered quarterly. The support group is designed to provide a supportive circle of fellowship and encouragement for Hospice patient's families. The meetings are very informal and members have the opportunity to express their feelings, fears and concerns in a confidential setting.

These services are available to all families served by Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. If you or someone in your family have any questions or suggestions, please let us know.
