The Hospice Chaplain is available to work with both the patient and their families. The chaplain addresses the spiritual needs of people for all walks of life and varying denominations. Because spirituality is a vital part of human life, spiritual care is an integral part of Hospice of McDowell County, Inc. Our Chaplain works closely with patients and families in order to bring a sense of comfort and security in a world that may seem to be crumbling around them and to ensure the unique, spiritual needs of each individual Hospice patient and family are being met.
Chaplaincy Services include:
- Emotional support and guidance with spiritual needs
- Reading of Bible scripture; as requested by the patient
- Prayer
- Assisting with communication between the patients or caregivers pastor or clergy as needed or desired
- spiritual counseling to patient/family according to their individual needs and beliefs
- Assistance with funeral planning and availability to conduct or assist with funeral or memorial service
- Spiritual direction
- Available for emotional support and encouragement at the time of death
- Assists with bereavement follow-up and grief groups for caregivers and families.
The Hospice Chaplain is available for all patients. Patients can utilize the service or decline the service based on their needs. The chaplain makes every effort to meet the patient and family where they are both emotionally and spiritually. As the patient and family learn to cope with their individual situations and examine their needs the chaplain is available to assist with the difficult questions and issues pertaining to the illness and death
